There’s something peculiar about the way the world flits and folds into itself, existing and yet constantly changing; it's the ultimate expression of a living, breathing work of art. It's in the heartbeat of humanity's creative spirit, in the raw, untamed expression of our collective subconscious. I'm reminded of this every day when I observe, study, and participate in the endless symphony of visual research in the arts space.
Recently, I found myself lost in the pages of the book ""Visual Impact: Creative Dissent in the 21st Century" by Liz McQuiston is a profound journey, tracing the transformative power of art as a catalyst for socio-political change. McQuiston peels back the layers of our collective consciousness, revealing how images, shaped by advertising, propaganda, and social movements, stir emotions and inspire action. She introduces us to audacious artists like Banksy and Ai Weiwei, whose works question norms and provoke thought. Lastly, we're ushered into a digital era, where open-source platforms are revolutionizing visual narratives. The journey through these pages left a lasting imprint on my understanding of art as more than just self-expression. It’s a reflection of our society, a mirror to our times, and an audacious call to action. This exploration underscored the hidden power of art and dissent, echoing in my soul a reminder that our creations have the potential to reshape, inspire, and challenge our world. This isn't just about aesthetics, it's about ethos - our ethos, as a society, and as individuals in an ever-evolving dance with the world.
Parallel to this, I also found myself captivated by Hyundai’s Pony Coupe, a stunning marriage of design and functionality. It's a beautiful car - yes, but beyond its sleek lines, it’s the embodiment of a vision, a dream realized through painstaking detail and craftsmanship. It's a testament to how design, when done right, becomes more than just an amalgamation of form and function. This car, this art, exists as both a projection of a certain image and an unconscious reflection of societal values and norms. It reminded me that creation is, in essence, a duality of intent and interpretation, a dialogue between the creator and the beholder. There’s a retro futuristic soul within my inner child that is very happy.
In my journey, as I explore and question, there are moments of doubt, fear, and vulnerability. Yet, there are also moments of profound realization and growth. And that’s the beauty of this exploration – it is as unpredictable as it is transformative. The journey is a labyrinth, every turn leading to new questions, insights, and sometimes, dead ends. Yet, each step is necessary, each twist and turn crucial to the process. And with each question asked, each insight gained, I evolve not just as an designer, but as an individual.
